Mindfulness-based School Staff Programme (MBSSP)

8 Week Program

MBSSP is offered as distance learning supported by two workshops during weeks 1 and 4 and a full day mindfulness retreat. MBSSP is developed from the evidence-based Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programs. The 8-week program will develop essential skills and knowledge necessary to effectively integrate mindfulness into a personal and therapeutic practice for school counsellors and teachers. Mindfulness practices form the heart of this training and encourage the development of a skilful means to care for ourselves and lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

MBSSP encourages experiential practice in a safe and supportive environment to deepen individual learning. Key areas of learning include:

  • Theory and structure of MBSR/CT.
  • Development of personal practice and why this is fundamental in teaching mindfulness to others.
  • Teaching mindfulness concepts and practices.
  • How to introduce mindfulness to young people, individually and in groups.
  • The structure of a mindfulness meditation practice.Compassion and the importance of intentionality.
  • The development of mindfulness in building internal resources and resiliency.
  • Informed overview of current school-based programs and emerging research into mindfulness with young people, and mindfulness in education.
  • Pathways for further learning and professional development.
